Ever since I painted up the Bashed Bishop Teutonic vignette for Gripping Beast, with the dismounted Druzhina included in the piece, I’ve had a yearning to paint up more Medieval Russians, especially the earlier types whome were still very much influenced by Eastern armours and fashions.
Anyway, was asked to add a lick of paint to some and gladly took up the offer. They should be making an appearence on the GB site soon(ish). So, without much further ado, here’s a few quick snaps of what I’ve been working on of late:
I’m not normally one to complain.
Well, not really.
Maybe about the Scottish weather………
Or the English cricket teams performance since the Ashes 2005………
I was chatting to a mate that had sent off a series of pics to the magazine Wargames Soldiers and Stratergy for an article covering the topic the art of the vignette which contained a few pics of stuff that I had painted up. Two of Dismounted Teutonics and one of ‘The Bashed Bishop’ vignette (pages 53 and 54 if you have a copy). He had included the all the relevent credit info. etc. and was dissapointed to have to reveal to me that the mag hadn’t actually credited anyone except himself. Not his fault I might add.
My response? Well at first I was quite layed back about it, after all it is not the end of the world, it’s a few toys and will not effect the precarious balance of world peace, not a cure for cancer, that sort of thing.
But then I got to thinking….. as well as painting miniatures I have been known, in my time, to do the odd piece of real artwork, be it sculpture or painting. What would my response have been if I’d picked up one of the art journals and found that a painting of mine had been miscredited? To be honest I would have been hopping mad!
Well, I’m pleased to report that I am not ‘hopping mad’, but just a little dissapointed that a mag that I fully support (I buy every issue) just can’t seem to get something very basic right and credit the miniature painters, that often put a lot of hard work into producing something that they are happy to have in print or published on the net.
Hopefully, food for thought for the editors out there :0)
Cheers,
Darrell.
