Hair! Or Completed Head Swaps

   Posted by: Darrell   in General

Well, here  are the completed head swaps, thus allowing me to fit in some of the Gripping Beast Early Saxon, Casualties and Killers minitures in with my norwegian Vikings without being ‘guilty’ of going against the grain of archeology and history. I’m quite pleased with the results as they don’t look at all as shabby as I was expecting :O)

Next up will be a couple of painted Beserkers and the first unit of Hirdmen.

Norwegians: A Few Minor Conversions

   Posted by: Darrell   in General

Hi,

By far my favourite casualties pack/s from any range of  miniatures has to the the Gripping Beast Early Saxon Casualty and Killers pack:

They just look fantastic…. So, the question is how to include these excellent models in my Norwegian army? The only way was to swap the heads over and re-sculpt the hair! A fairy daunting prospect on such beautifull models.

Here’s a bunch of photo’s of a some four mini’s from the Casualty and Killers packs with a few small conversons thrown in using some of the arrows from the Perry WotR plastics box, a scramseax from the Gripping Beast plastic Vikings bow and an old GW dead Norse model slipped in:

I have special plans for the last picture in the set. I should have some pics of the minor bits and pieces of sculpting i need to do tomorrow.

Johnny Reb

   Posted by: Darrell   in General

Almost forgot, the chaps on the other table in the room were buisy entertaining themselves equiped with factious enthusiasm, dice and Johnny Reb. A really lovely looking game, so inbetween bouts of looking up Disposable Heroes rules I nipped over and took a few shots:

So, I thought remembering rules that i have played several time should come naturally to me….. not so…..

A bit of to-ing and fro-ing through the Disposable Heroes rulebook sort of got us on the right track and Steve and Gaz hopefully found some assistance in my rulebook rantings…..

Anyway, Steve came up with a pretty good scenario, that of the Germans attempting to locate and recover a Tiger. Thus far the direfull vehicle remains undiscovered and the game will continue next week so expect more pics soon.

Lesson learnt? Read the rules before playing…. I must have said that to myself a hundred times :O)

Guest Warriors…… Gestir!

   Posted by: Darrell   in General

These chaps were rescued from a rather terrible accident involving a stair case, my Norwegian ‘Vikings’ and a nasty fall a year or so ago. Luckily the mini’s were in a plastic box, a more forgiving enclosure then my metal toolbox which was often used! Anyway, many of them have been patched up by building up the paint layers again and then given an acrylic brush on varnish followed by some of the old formula Testors Dullcote. Much of the damaged paintwork wasn’t too difficult to match up again as I had just bought the second Foundry paintset and was very much into using them at the time- oh lucky man!

The miniatures are all by Gripping Beast from their very first range of ‘Vikings’ and some have never been released, which, as I have now managed to rescue them from their torment, has added to my relief :O)

If you click on the images they will enlarge:

Hope you enjoy them :O)

Partizan: My Camera on the Loose Again

   Posted by: Darrell   in General

Hi all,

Recently made it down to Partizan and had a bit of a run around with my camera. As usual I’ve picked games that appeal to me for various reasons. The standard of games at this show are very high and I don’t remember seeing a single game that looked ordinary.

OK, so first, The Perry Twins Wars of the Roses Battle of Tewkesbury game:

P1000286

P1000287

P1000291

P1000292

P1000293

The next game was by Derby Wargames Society and was billed as Poles vs Turks, anyway it caught my imagination:

P1000310

P1000311

P1000312

Finally I have Curteys Miniatures, Mongol Invasion of Europe, The Battle of Liegnitz 1241:
